Gel Mount 250 mL

Presentation:

Gel/Mount is an aqueous mounting medium designed for preserving the fluorescence in the tissue sections. It can be used in conjunction with tracers such as fluorescein, FluoroBlue, rhodamine, Texas Red, and the PhycoProbe tracers containing phycoerythrin, phycocyanin and allophycocyanin.
Gel/Mount is a non-glycerol based mounting medium.

It is specially formulated without glycerol to avoid the deleterious effects of this compound in some of the phycobiliprotein based detection systems. This makes Gel/Mount the mounting medium of choice when phycobiliproteins are used as tracers.

Specificity:

Gel/Mount is an aqueous-based mounting medium designed for the preservation of fluorescence-stained tissue sections. Gel/Mount is especially recommended when mounting sections stained with tracers containing phycoerythrin, phycocyanin, allophycocyanin or FluoroBlue. It can also be used with conventional fluorescent tracers such as fluorescein (FITC), Rhodamine (TMRITC), Texas Red, Cy2, Cy3 and Cy5.

Storage:

Store at room temperature.

Technical Information:

Gel/Mount is an aqueous mounting medium designed for preserving the fluorescence in the tissue sections. It can be used in conjunction with tracers sucs as fluorescein, FluoroBlue, rhodamine, Texas Red and the PhycoProbe tracers containing phycoerythrin (PE), phycocyanin (PC), and allophycocyanin (APC).

Gel/Mount is not inteded to be dried. You MUST use a coverslip. Drying will cause air bubbles and may fade the tracer. (Some people have had okay results without coverslip, but we recommend it.) Use LOTS of Permount/Clarion to seal the edges to prevent evaporation.
Refractive index of Gel/Mount: 1.358+-0.002 due to batch variance. (In solution only. We don't have a way of measuring the refractive index of dried mounting media, however we expect it to go higher when dry.)
Does not contain "phenylenediamine" -- which interferes with Cy2, Cy3, Cy5

Notes:
Step-by-Step Instructions:Before using this product turn the bottle dropper tip to the open position. Close the dropper tip tightly when finished mounting to avoid evaporation and solidifying of mounting medium.

1. Rinse stained tissue section with distilled water.
2. Remove excess of water around the tissue sections.
3. Place slide on a horizontal surface and apply two separate drops of Gel/Mount on the tissue sections.
4. Touch the slide with one edge of the coverslip, then gently lower the coverslip onto the slide, taking care not to create any bubbles. Wait for one hour.(See illustration.) Seal the edges of the coverslip with ClariØn or Permount or equivalent organic mounting medium. For best results, store all mounted slides in the dark.

This product is not suitable for binary substrates generally used for immunohistochemistry. A product like Crystal/Mount (aqueous mounting media) or ClariØn (organic mounting media) should be used.
